Sand Rivers Selous offers many varied Selous safari activities, such as motorboat trips up the towering Steigler's Gorge, a variety of long and short walks which begin from the camp, or from a short drive away. The long walks take place in the morning; they start at a time that suits the guests, but it's wise to start by 7am to avoid the heat of the day. Shorter walks are offered as an afternoon activity, starting at 4pm and continuing to return to camp around sunset.
Most popular are the camp's 4WD safaris, which explore the plains and lakeshores. The morning game drives begin at around 7am, returning at midday for lunch. An afternoon Selous safari in Tanzania will head out again at 4pm. You can combine a 4WD safari with a short walking safari. Other options include fishing, or a relaxing soak in the Tagalala Hot Springs.
Sand Rivers Selous also has a nearby hide – raised up on stilts, and overlooking a large marshy area. This permanently wet area is frequented by a variety of African wildlife – from Elephant and herds of Giraffe coming down to drink, to a kaleidoscope of birds searching for food.
Selous Walking Safari - Explore the remotest corners of the Selous Game Reserve over a set period, with fly-camps moving every night. Walk through magical and diverse landscapes, seeing things not always visible from a vehicle. Each day is designed to be different, and to offer unrivalled exposure to the area. On a Selous safari in Tanzania, walks are concentrated around the early morning and late afternoons, with opportunities for fishing, and relaxing in the middle of the day.
