Day 7: Lake Manyara After a full morning’s game viewing, we return to the lodge for lunch and thereafter, proceed to Lake Manyara for dinner and overnight. Although it is one of Tanzania’s smaller wildlife parks, Lake Manyara National Park is a spectacular reserve with a great diversity of terrain, plant and animal species. Established specifically to protect the elephant herds that have made this area world renowned, the park provides a varied wildlife experience.
Apart from the elephants, Lake Manyara is famous for tree-climbing lions, as well as the thousands of flamingos that inhabit the lake shore. Large herds of buffalo, cheetah, Maasai giraffe, hippo and impala can be seen. The lake supports an incredible diversity of birds, particularly water fowl and migrants.
Lake Manyara Tree Lodge has ten luxurious suites that blend intimacy and romance in cool, leafy surrounds. Each suite is a lofty tree house with private veranda and large windows that open up to the lush forest, welcoming in the sights and sounds of the African bush.
An interactive kitchen brings a touch of flair to breakfast and lunch. Dinner each night is prepared and served in the open dining boma, encircled by a tall fence of gnarled wood. The park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with more than 400 species, particularly waterfowl and migrants. An evocative image from the shores of Lake Manyara is the huge flocks of flamingo that feed in the shallows of the lakes during much of the year.
Explore Lake Manyara on early morning and late afternoon game drives accompanied by an expert ranger. Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is the only lodge in the national park and, as it is far away from the gate, you will not frequently encounter other vehicles while on game drive, particularly early in the morning. Day 8: Travel back to Arusha Depart after an early breakfast for a full morning game drive with picnic lunch. Thereafter return to Arusha, arriving late afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel or the Arusha airport for your onward flights.
