What to expect from this 8 day Best of Tanzania Safari:

Tanzania is a country of exceptional diversity, boasting among its many attraction the legendary migrations of the Serengeti and the African Eden of Ngorongoro – and the iconic Maasai gracing the landscape. Not as well known, but just as dramatic are the parks of Tarangire and Manyara where giant Baobab trees dwarf elephant herds and flamingos paint the waters pink.

Animals in great numbers gather on the landscapes of northern Tanzania. The greatest show on earth, the great wildebeest migration, and the congregation of millions of flamingos in the lakes ensure a spectacle like no other.

Days 1 & 2: Tarangire National Park

Pick up from your hotel and depart Arusha to Tarangire National Park. Enjoy a morning game viewing en-route to your lodge for lunch and thereafter, an afternoon game drive returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight for the next two nights.

Tarangire Treetops Camp is located just outside the border of the park overlooking the sand river and offers magnificent views of the wildlife that passes through this area. Set in a private reserve of 44,000 acres, Tarangire Treetops Camp has easy access to Tarangire National Park. Twenty treetop-tents have thatched-roofs and ensuite bathroom facilities and a private deck built around one of the baobab and wild fig trees. Activities include walking, day game drives into the park and night game drives on the private reserve.

The Tarangire River supplies Tarangire National Park with a year round water supply. When the dry season arrives in the Serengeti, many animals move into Tarangire and can be seen on the river banks. Tarangire is scenically very beautiful, is great for bird watchers and has fewer visitors than the more well knows parks.

Days 3 & 4: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

We depart early for the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area was established to conserve wildlife and other natural resources, as well as to safeguard the interests of indigenous people and promote tourism.

The largest intact caldera in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater has a permanent population of more than 30 000 animals which inhabit a mere 260 km˛ in the 600 m deep crater, making this one of the few places in Africa where guests stand a great chance of seeing the entire Big Five in the course of a single game drive. You will spend a full day in the crater where you will stop at one of the designated picnic sites on the Crater floor for a delicious packed lunch. Surrounded by Africa's most iconic scenery, as well as the wildlife, this will be a picnic you will always remember.

Dinner and overnight will be at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. Divided into three camps, 30 stilted suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs provide an intimate and unique Crater experience. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers to provide personal service to each guest. The domed dining room, boasts huge windows and awe-inspiring views, ensures that the setting, as well as the meal, is one you will never forget. Indulge in a decadent afternoon tea or a sundowner cocktail as you watch the play of light on the breathtaking Crater views from the comfort of your private suite.

Spend the following day either on a morning game drive into the crater or relaxing at the lodge.

Days 5 & 6: Serengeti National Park

Today we leave the Ngorongoro Conservation area and we drive off into the Serengeti National Park game viewing en-route to our lodge. The Serengeti National Park forms part of a huge conservation area, encompassing the adjacent Ngorongoro Conservation Area, well as the Masai Mara in neighbouring Kenya. With no fences, huge numbers of wildlife move freely throughout this area.

Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is set in the remote reaches of the Park, on a bywater of the Grumeti River, known for its wildebeest crossings and huge Nile crocodiles. The camp is tucked into a strip of riverine forest, where guests will enjoy nocturnal serenades by various owls and bushbabies.

Every year between June and July, Africa’s Great Migration passes through Grumeti, and thousands of wildebeest, zebra and other herbivores cross the Grumeti River, risking the jaws of some of Africa’s largest crocodiles.

Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is situated beneath tall evergreen trees and is made up of ten spacious safari tents, each with its own en suite bathroom, an outdoor dining area, and an expansive game-viewing deck. Under palm frond canopies the vibrant and colourful interiors, which include hand-blown Kenyan glassware, African cloth, and local sculptured furnishings, add a stylish and whimsical feel to the camp.

Enjoy twice-daily game drives run by the expert staff during your two night stay at Grumeti Tented Camp.
